If you're going camping or hiking, asthma planning is a must. Know what to watch out for and how to deal with it:

Campfire Smoke. This can be a serious asthma trigger, so stay far enough away from the fire to avoid having the smoke blow directly in your face.

Misty Mornings. Moisture in the air may trigger an asthma episode.

Insect Bites. Many people have allergies to insect bites, but they don't always know it. If you think you might have a reaction, bring along emergency medicines just in case.

If you are in a remote camping area or anywhere that does not provide easy access to a telephone, bring a cellular phone in case of emergencies.

Tell a friend or family member where you are going and how long you will be gone. Make sure they know who to contact in case they have not heard from you by a certain time.

Think ahead. Don't forget to bring your medicines, and continue to follow your asthma treatment plan. Remember—asthma never takes a holiday.
